Trip to Antýgl

Romance along the Hamerský Stream and the Vydra River...

This trip is a balm for the soul for anyone who loves the sound of flowing water and wild nature.

Heading straight to the water after morning coffee

You can start your adventure right after a hearty breakfast. Simply step out in front of our Helena Honesová guesthouse in Horská Kvilda and join the relevant hiking trail heading down into the valley. Your car can rest safely in our courtyard all day, allowing you to avoid any morning commutes.

The Hamerský Stream will keep you company

The path will reliably lead you through beautiful nature directly along the picturesque Hamerský Stream. Its refreshing gurgling will accompany you the whole time as you pass through deep Šumava forests and rocky riverbeds. The water carves out interesting formations here and creates quiet corners that directly invite you to stop for a moment and soak up the true forest atmosphere.

The highlight of this first part is the arrival at the Dolní Antýgl settlement, where a popular campsite is located. It is also in these places where a wonderful natural spectacle takes place – the waters of the Hamerský Stream join and flow wildly into the bed of our most famous Šumava river, the Vydra.

Extending the trip to Turnerova chata

Why end at the confluence when the most beautiful part might be just beginning? From Antýgl, you can seamlessly follow the legendary trail and continue further downstream. You will walk along the roaring Vydra, which is full of giant granite boulders and so-called giant pots that the water has been shaping here for millennia.

The goal of this extension is the well-known Turnerova chata, the only publicly accessible historical building preserved in the first zone of the national park. Here, on the stylish terrace, you can enjoy a hearty soup, warm up, and savor a piece of Šumava history before heading back to us in Horská Kvilda. You can study the complete route to Turnerova chata in our other article.

A few useful tips from us before your trip

To ensure nothing catches you off guard on the trail, we have put together a few practical tips for you:

  • A steady step is key: Since you will be moving through the valley along the water, expect that stones and roots on the paths can be unpleasantly slippery. High-quality and ideally waterproof footwear is an absolute necessity for this purely hiking trip. 🥾
  • Don't look for a signal: The valley of the Hamerský Stream and the Vydra River is a feast for the eyes, but you most likely won't come across a mobile network here. Therefore, load the route onto your phone in the morning at our guesthouse using the Wi-Fi. 📱
  • How it works with cars: If friends who are not staying with us join you on the trip, refer them to the paid municipal parking lot in Horská Kvilda. As our guests, you naturally have guaranteed free parking at our house.
